Devices overview

This page explains where Reelspect runs your tests and how you choose a device in the Device Preset field of a Sandbox test case or a run.

Where tests run

TargetWhat it is
Desktop browserA Chromium browser that runs on Reelspect’s servers and connects from France. Nothing to install.
iOS simulatorsiPhone and iPad simulators that run Safari on a Mac running the Device Bridge.
Physical iOS devicesYour own iPhones and iPads, connected to a computer running the Device Bridge. Tests run in Safari.
Physical Android devicesYour own Android phones and tablets, connected to a computer running the Device Bridge. Tests run in Chrome.

You cannot choose a browser type: the browser follows from the device. A desktop browser is not used to emulate a phone; mobile tests use simulators or real devices.

Desktop browser sessions always connect from France. If a game or site is not available in France (for example because of licensing or geo-blocking), run the test on a simulator or device connected from the right country instead. See Network and location.

Codemodity can provide hosted devices under a custom agreement — contact us.

The list shows only devices registered to the organization that owns the current project.

When a bridge goes offline, its devices drop out of the list. A test case or run that still points at one keeps showing the saved name in the field, without a warning. Check that the bridge is online before you launch.

Private and shared devices

Each computer that runs the Device Bridge registers a bridge. A bridge belongs to exactly one organization and is either private or public:

  • Private: only the person who registered it can run tests on its devices and simulators. This is the default.
  • Public: every member of the organization can run tests on it, under Shared Devices and Shared Simulators.

Only the owner can make a bridge public or private, move it to another organization (one they belong to), or remove it, on My Bridges in the user menu. The organization’s Devices page lists every bridge of the organization, private and public, with its status and devices, but is read-only.

Making a bridge public lets every member of its organization launch tests on it. Make public only bridges whose computers and devices are dedicated to testing.
